CMS has implemented many changes in the MDS process, added new items to the MDS 3.0 data set and more changes are coming in October 2018. This interactive session will identify the new items and the manual instruction to collect and report the data. Our expert presenter, Leah Klush, Executive Director of The Alliance Training Center, will share her knowledge of the reimbursement models and connect the dots between:

  • The value of an accurately completed MDS in the face of potential reimbursement model changes;
  • Michigan’s Quality Measure Initiative (Medicaid) that will incentivize providers, from the Provider Tax pool, to increase their QM scores; and
  • How to accomplish this through some of the areas with new coding instructions in Sections GG, I, M, N, O and P.

The Code of Federal Regulations and F-Tag Content has changed with the implementation of the new LTC survey process. This session will review the new assessment tags and related regulation. We will discuss the training process to assist the team to complete the new document and its requirements.

MDS nurses and clinical managers need to know the questions surveyors will ask about the assessment process, documentation policies and procedures. Surveyor interview questions for staff will be discussed and included in handout materials.

Database content is very important for regulatory compliance, quality reporting processes, and facility database accuracy. The program handouts will include a copy of the Track Changes for October 1, 2017 and December 15, 2017, as well as other updates from CMS.

CMS has released the new items for the October 2018 MDS 3.0. These will be identified and discusses during the must attend session for operations, clinical leadership and MDS managers.
