LeadingAge Michigan, with several of our Continuing Care Retirement Community members have been working for many months on new legislation to update the laws regulating life care organizations in Michigan. On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, the Michigan Senate voted in favor of our four bill package to modernize the current Living Care Disclosure Act. The vote was unanimous - - 38-0.

“In addition to modernization, these changes will better reflect new and innovative models of care for Michigan’s seniors. My desire is to continue to support consumer choice and protection while encouraging continued investments in these models of care” said Senator Moolenaar while talking about the bill package on the Senate Floor.

“This legislation adds clarity, transparency, and consumer protection to the act which governs care of our senior citizens. To that end, I ask for my colleagues’ support of Senate Bill Nos. 886, 887, 888, and 889” he added.

The bills have been referred to the committee on Regulatory Reform in the House where we hope they will be reviewed next month.
