Home and Community Based Services

Home and Community Based Services are those supports that are provided at home to persons who need assistance with activities of daily living (such as bathing and grooming) and instrumental activities of daily living (such as shopping and meal preparation).  Personal care services delivered to individuals within their home can be offered through several different programs which may be called home and community based - such as private duty home care and home health care.

Two Michigan programs covered under Medicaid that provide home and community based services include the Adult Home Help program and the MI Choice Program for the Elderly and Disabled. These programs require financial eligibility for Medicaid and certain level of care needs. The MI Choice Program is allowed to accept only a certain number of beneficiaries, but the Adult Home Help program is open to anyone who meets the eligibility requirements.
