Types of Member Services

Nursing Homes

Nursing Homes are licensed by the state and include several types: licensed free standing nursing homes may be not-for-profit or for-profit, privately owned or owned by corporations. Most Nursing Homes are also federally certified (skilled) and can provide services under Medicare for short term rehabilitative services, generally following an acute care episode. In Michigan, there are also County Medical Care Facilities that are designed to care for those with very limited means, as well as Long Term Acute Care Units that are associated with hospitals. All of these nursing home types by definition provide 24 hour nursing and personal care services. Nursing Homes are surveyed at least annually to ensure that adequate staffing and quality care is provided.
