Executive Order 2020-37 Extends Visitation Restrictions to Independent Living - On Sunday, Governor Whitmer extended restrictions to certain healthcare facilities; effective immediately and through May 3, 2020. Staff screening and visitor restrictions remain unchanged.  However, for the first time the Governor defined residential settings to include independent living facilities. The question of the ability to limit visitation in independent living had until this time been difficult with strong consideration of resident rights.  Some experts have stated that visitor movement into the facilities could be restricted but not outright visitation. This executive order applies the same restrictions and staff screening guidelines to independent living. Read More- Posted 4/6/2020


Governor Issues New Executive Orders - Under Executive Order 2020-36, any and all individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or who display one or more of the principal symptoms – fever, atypical cough and atypical shortness of breath – must remain in their home or place of residence until three days have passed since their symptoms resolved or seven days since symptoms first appeared or were swabbed for a test that came back positive. - Posted 4/6/2020

CMS April 2, 2020 Updated Guidance for Long Term Care - Nursing Homes must immediately ensure that they are currently complying with infection control guidance especially hand hygiene, utilize the infection control self- assessment, and follow CDC guidance for nursing homes and conservation of PPE. Additionally, symptom screening must be conducted for all you are entering the facility. - Posted 4/3/2020

Reminder to Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities - Reviews of issues related to long term care facilities with high numbers of positive COVID-19 cases (in states other than Michigan), show that two issues may have driven the spread of infection. (1) Failure to appropriately address employees and residents who may have had exposure or started to demonstrate symptoms of disease and (2) Failure to immediately separate, cohort and limit movement of persons suspected of disease along with confining care of such persons to staff dedicated to their care only. - Posted 4/3/2020
